GV70 vs. Q5: Luxury and Tech
Genesis GV70
Brand new for this year, the 2022 Genesis GV70 is the smaller brother to the GV80. With the same engine choices — a 2.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder or a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 — both connected to full-time all-wheel drive, we’re expecting it to be sporty and fun to drive.
Handsome looks including the Genesis signature diamond-pattern grille continue inside, with a beautiful cabin that’s modern without being gimmicky. There are also plenty of options, including several matte hues and different interior color themes.
There’s plenty of space for average-size adults and decent cargo room as well, with 56.9 cubic feet of space with all seats folded. Standard features include heated front seats and a 12-way power-adjustable driver seat.
Also standard are a slew of driver-assist features, including dynamic cruise control, front and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, and blind-spot collision avoidance assist. Higher trims bring features such as a 360-degree camera system, leather seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
Audi Q5
We here at KBB are big fans of the Audi Q5, having crowned it a KBB Best Buy winner several years in a row. It continues to be a best-seller, and for good reason. There are some mild upgrades to the 2022 Audi Q5, including a larger battery for the plug-in hybrid version.
There’s much to like about the Q5, from its standard all-wheel drive to its choice of powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid that makes 362 horsepower while returning 64 MPGe on the highway. Driving manners lie somewhere between sporty and comfortable, except in the top SQ5 model with a much more powerful engine and performance-oriented suspension.
Exterior styling is minimalist while still being cool, and the interior is modern while still being very tasteful, with high-quality materials including leather upholstery and wood trim. While it seats five, space is best for four adults, with 38 inches of rear legroom. It can also accommodate a good amount of gear, with 54 cubic feet of cargo space with all seats folded.
Standard equipment includes keyless entry and ignition, tri-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. Driver-assist features include forward-collision avoidance with automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors front and rear, and lane-keeping assistance. Higher trims add amenities such as a premium 755-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system and more sporty exterior trim. Be aware that the top SQ5 model starts above $60,000.
Similarities
Standard all-wheel drive; premium interiors; cargo space; base fuel economy.
2022 Genesis GV70 Advantages
Lower starting price; long warranty; distinctive looks.
2022 Audi Q5 Advantages
Optional plug-in hybrid; brand cachet; premium interior.
Which One is Right for Me?
Competition improves the breed, as they say, and we like what we see from the 2022 Genesis GV70. This new Genesis SUV borrows a lot of notes from its larger sibling and incorporates them into a smaller package that’s stylish, sporty, and competitively priced.
There’s a reason that the Audi Q5 is the company’s best-seller, and it’s been a consistent award winner from KBB for all the right reasons, from its choice of engines to its luxury touches and excellent build quality. If you have the money and want the best, the 2022 Audi Q5 is a great choice.
