It started during the 1700s that people use metals with iron columns to construct walls. Since then the iron beams and columns have become the popular feature in industrial buildings. Sir Henry Basserner invented the steel in 1855 resulting in steel becoming the integral components of pipelines, skyscrapers and bridges.

Steel buildings are preferred due to the many advantages. They usually use up shorter construction time compared to other materials. Hence the costs and construction fees are cheaper in comparison to the conventional building methods. Not only that steels have lighter weight, they have easier maintenance and lower risk of fire.

Steel is a lucrative and environmental-friendly construction source alternative besides being 66 percent recyclable. However, one huge advantage is that steel has greater strength as compared to any other metals. Steel structures can withstand horrendous weathers such as high winds, earthquakes, hurricanes and heavy snow. It also has high resistance to termites, cracks, creeping, totting and splitting.

Although the traditional wooden buildings are cheaper compared to the steel buildings, it is more cost-effective in the long term basis due to its lower maintenance cost. This will lead to lower insurance fee as the risk towards fire is lower and certainly, lower labor and assembly cost. If one does not prefer the look of steel, steel structures can be covered with bricks or stucco. The expanding technologies have enhanced the use of steel in constructions as it can be altered into various designs and fabrication.

Any steel products, including the steel frames are mostly made of recycled steel. More than 28 percent of steel frames are recycled steel and they can undergo recycling process more than once. This is one environmental friendly factor as compared to the wood which typically requires the logging of trees. For example, a rough 2000-square-foot house will require the amount of wood from almost 50 trees while for the exact area; it only uses approximately sex scrapped of automobiles.
