ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) – Altoona Historic Culture Incorporated has acquired a creating that will residence their museum. Following conversing with the city, AHSI leased a constructing in Altoona’s 10th street park, in the vicinity of the tennis courts and the Fish Dwelling developing, in January.
“When we found out they were going to build a new recreation creating and the future of this setting up was unsure, we stepped forward and questioned if we could lease this from them and convert it into a musuem, AHSI president, Don Winrich stated.
AHSI has been gathering artifacts from group customers because it reorganized and these objects showcase the wealthy background of Altoona.
“The basis of Altoona is genuinely primarily based on the rail street,” Winrich reported. “We have a pretty wealthy heritage of railroading and in the starting, it was originally referred to as East Eau Claire and eventually it turned into Altoona Named immediately after Altoona, Pennsylvania.”
Examples of some of the merchandise that have been donated are factors from the Hillcrest Golf Training course, handmade things like quilts, Altoona Significant School calendar year publications and extra.
“The metropolis of Altoona actually donated a speeder. A speeder is an previous railroad maintenance car or truck identified as a putt-putt,” Winrich stated.
Vicki Iverson is a member of AHSI who has loved ones ties to the community of Altoona. She got involved about 5 a long time ago and begun making annually calendars to showcase Altoona’s record even further.
“It’s intriguing to collect images and obtain the tales and then allow folks know about amazing record in Altoona,” Iverson said.
The museum doesn’t have official hours of but, but will in the around upcoming. AHSI is actively accepting donations.
“It will mature, we are just having began,” Winrich explained.
The museum does not have official open hrs yet, but programs to in the close to long run.
